A New Copper: Using minute quantities of the most biologically active form of copper, Ionic Cupric Copper, achieves effective results from very low application rates.

Ionic Cupric Copper: Unlike copper sulphate, Ionic Cupric Copper ‘s copper does not sink to the bottom. It naturally seeks a balanced disbursement leading to even performance results. In contrast, copper sulphate is commonly plagued by ‘hot spots’ and inconsistent effectiveness.

Ionic Cupric Copper is also longer lasting. It remains bio-available through a wide range of conditions until assimilated by a target microorganism allowing for on-going water protection. And unlike copper sulphate and chlorine-based anti-microbial applications, it is not affected by sunlight and does not evaporate nor precipitate. It is also capable of remaining biologically active through the rigours of high pH, alkalinity and organic content.


The Ionic Cupric Copper matrix provides an inert carrier solution that supports water-soluble mineral ions for a wide array of highly effective applications. Ionic Cupric Copper supported product formulas provide stability and maximize lasting biological efficacy while stimulating the anti-microbial and nutritional properties of trace mineral ions.

The theory behind Ionic Cupric Copper science springs from the principle that when positively charged mineral ions form electrostatic bonds with negatively charged areas around a target micro-organism, the bonding distorts the cell membrane of the target micro-organism causing permeability. Once inside the cell, the active mineral ions react with sulphur-containing amino acid residues in the proteins and the micro-organism, unable to metabolize its food and perform digestive and reproductive functions, dies. With its work completed, the mineral ion in Ionic Cupric Copper stays with its host and is re-assimilated into the natural environment without creating a mineral imbalance.

Ionic Cupric Copper’s proprietary water protection products are water-miscible liquid concentrates which use long-life ionic copper as active ingredients. Copper is essential nutrients for most living creatures. Each species of microorganism, however, has a specific tolerance for these minerals so that when a tolerance level is reached, the mineral causes a toxic response and the microorganism dies. Problematic organisms being highly sensitive to these minerals die at very low concentration levels of the active ingredients. This low tolerance is the key to the success of Ionic Cupric Copper’s technology in controlling unwanted organisms while providing necessary nutrients to higher life forms and conditions which allow beneficial bacteria to flourish.


Minute Mineral Dilutions. Ionic Cupric Copper’s core technology allows controlling micro-organisms – including algae, bacteria, and fungi – while using extremely low concentrations of natural mineral ions. Our mineral dilutions are not widely inconsistent with naturally occurring background levels, to help ensure a ready return to balance. Depending on the application and conditions, concentration levels can be balanced to protect the environment.

Return to Balance. This is how it works. Typically the application of Ionic Cupric Copper to water, organic wastes, plants or food results in the mineral ions becoming bound by target micro-organisms or other organic matter. In this state, the bound minerals are no longer biologically active. These mineral ions stay with their host microbes and are typically assimilated into the natural environment without creating a mineral imbalance. Where severe conditions dictate aggressive treatments in the early stages, restoring environmental balance may be delayed.

Ionic Cupric Copper does not dissipate; it is ONLY used up by biological demand.  If it isn’t working it is waiting.  The sun doesn’t make it evaporate like chlorine.  When you have products that dissipate you must use a lot of them to make sure you always have some in the water.

Ionic Cupric Copper is also self-dispersing. This doesn’t mean you don’t need your filter, you do, but it does mean that it is able to get all the little corners and places that chemicals that fall to the bottom can not.  Because it is self-dispersing you don’t have to dump gallons in to try and make sure it is going to cover all areas.

Since early times humankind has benefitted from the anti-microbial properties of many natural minerals. Ancient Greeks, Romans, even the Aztecs relied on copper as a sterilization agent for drinking water and wounds. In 1500 B.C. it was prescribed to combat headaches, “trembling of the limbs,” burns, and itching”. Cholera immunity was noted in copper workers during the Paris epidemic of the 1830′s.

Like copper, silver and zinc can be toxic to bacteria, viruses, algae and fungi without endangering human health. The Phoenicians stored water in silver bottles to prevent spoilage. Hippocrates wrote of its healing and anti-viral capabilities. Zinc is known for healing wounds, skin conditions, and gastrointestinal disorders.


Through our proprietary Ionization technology, AGS has overcome not only the practical limitations experienced with earlier uses of minerals as anti-microbial, it’s also maximized it bio-availability ensuring maximum effectiveness.

Take for example our copper-based products. They offer distinct advantages over copper sulphate.  Only minute quantities of ionized copper is used in Ionic Cupric Copper and in combination with our proprietary core technology have greater and longer lasting effectiveness while remaining gentler to the environment. They do not precipitate with shifts in pH or evaporate and spread rapidly without mixing or agitation – remaining evenly dispersed in water regardless of dilution rate. Without mechanical mixing copper sulphate spreads unevenly in a water body and remains effective for only a few days. In contrast, Ionic Cupric Copper remains bio-available until assimilated by a microorganism ensuring residual protection for an extended period. This also means that lower and lower application rates are required to keep aquatic environments free of unwanted micro-organisms.

Algae is a major symptom of  eutrophication – a leading cause of environmental degradation cited as one of the most widespread environmental problems of inland waters by the United Nations Environment Program.
Algae is also an operational nuisance leading to broken down water systems and the production of toxins and noxious gases harmful to humans and animals alike.



Carbon Dioxide. Along with fossil fuel combustion and deforestation, algae, soil bacteria and fungi contribute to the release of carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere when they decompose. As the planet warms under climate change, bacterial growth is not only encouraged but soil respiration and carbon dioxide release accelerates – doubling with every 5–10°C increase in temperature.  It’s called a positive feedback loop – or vicious cycle.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas over 20 times more effective in trapping heat in the atmosphere than carbon dioxide (CO2) over a 100-year period.  Remaining in the atmosphere between 9-15 years, human activity is increasing the amount of methane released by microbes by an estimated 150 million tons annually. Sources include landfill sites, rice paddies, wastewater treatment, oil and gas systems and agricultural activities.


Fermenting organic waste can give rise to noxious gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulphide as well as methane if not managed properly.  Indoor air quality in agricultural and industrial settings represent significant health and safety concerns for workers and animals alike.
